Why Physics?
Physics is a broad field that can lead to several different career paths, including research in the many sub-fields of physics and astronomy, engineering, education and technology. Many careers in the other natural sciences also require some general physics knowledge; for example, pre-medical programs. Jobs in Physics require a Bachelor degree or higher. Most people pursuing a degree in physics are serious about seeking a Masters degree or Ph.D., with the strong desire to engage in research as a physicist or astronomer.
Just of few examples of the many physics and astronomy sub-fields include cosmology, high-energy field theory, condensed-matter physics, optics/photonics and space physics. Upon completion of a Masters or Ph.D. in physics, if research is not a desired pursuit, the graduate has other options, such as teaching at a 2-year community college or 4-year college. Researchers can expect to one day seek Assistant Professor positions at major 4-year research universities.
Why Bay College?
The Physics program at Bay College offers students the opportunity to get a head start on their degree of interest at much lower cost with much better access to their chemistry, math and physics instructors than they would at a large 4-year institution. Beginning undergraduate students seeking a Bachelors degree in physics can begin their education at Bay College by taking Calculus I, II, and III, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra (all required math courses) and Engineering Physics I and II, as well as General Chemistry I and II (also required). These classes all transfer to the student’s next institution. The above classes also apply to engineering degrees. Beginning undergraduate students seeking a degree in chemistry or biology can plan on taking two semesters of trigonometry-based physics, which Bay College offers, titled Elements of Physics I and II
